A Sheffield man has been jailed for six years after being found guilty of raping and strangling a young woman who courageously reported his crimes and testified against him in court.
Wilson Tut, 27, of Adlington Crescent, attacked the 18-year-old victim in Sheffield on 10 October 2024. The woman reported the assault shortly after, and Tut was arrested on suspicion of rape on 13 October.
During questioning, Tut denied any wrongdoing and later pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and intentional strangulation when he appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on 17 March. His denial forced the victim to endure the trauma of a full trial, during which she gave evidence detailing the violent assault.
Following her powerful testimony, the jury found Tut guilty of both offences on 13 August. He was sentenced at the same court on 22 October to six years in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register in accordance with the Sexual Offences Act.
Detective Kevin Sibley, who led the investigation, praised the victim’s courage: “I would like to commend the incredible bravery of the victim in this case for providing crucial evidence in court that helped to put her attacker behind bars.
“His disgusting act caused her considerable pain, which was compounded when he denied his actions and put her through the ordeal of a trial.
“I am glad that he has been jailed for his crimes, and I hope this result shows that others who have been victims of sexual offences will be believed when they come forward.
“We take all reports of sexual offences seriously. If you have been raped, sexually assaulted, or sexually harassed, you can report to us in confidence — we will thoroughly investigate every report.”
