Police have launched a joint investigation with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch following the fatal crash in Doncaster.
A 70-year-old man has died after a helicopter crashed in a field in Bentley, Doncaster, on Thursday morning (30 October).
Emergency services were called to the scene on Ings Road at around 10:14am following reports of the crash. Police, firefighters, and paramedics attended as part of a major multi-agency response.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the 70-year-old man — whose identity has not yet been released — was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.
Three other people on board — the pilot, a 41-year-old man, a 58-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old boy — sustained minor injuries.
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that a joint investigation is now underway with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) to determine the cause of the crash.
Ings Road remains closed while emergency services and investigators continue their work at the site.
Detective Inspector Matt Bolger, the senior investigating officer, said:
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died in this tragic incident.
“We and our emergency services colleagues remain at the scene and have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash in partnership with the AAIB.
“As part of our enquiries, we’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage of the helicopter prior to the crash to contact us.”
