The family has levelled serious allegations against her husband, Dr. Ifeanyi Obi, citing a decade-long history of domestic abuse and raising concerns over his conduct in the days leading up to her death.
A History of Alleged Abuse
Nzube Grace Obi married Dr. Obi in 2014. According to detailed testimonies from family members, the marriage was allegedly characterized by sustained physical and emotional violence during their years in Nigeria. Family sources state that Nzube chose to remain in the union for the sake of their four young children, eventually relocating to Derby in early 2024 to join her husband.

The situation escalated on New Year’s Day 2026. After receiving “disturbing images” of Nzube’s deteriorating physical condition, her family contacted Dr. Obi, pleading for her to be moved to a more secure environment where she could receive professional palliative care.
The following day, Dr. Obi reportedly created a WhatsApp group to update the family, stating that he had taken his wife to the hospital for the administration of painkillers. On January 3, the same group was used to announce her passing.

Unsatisfied with the explanation provided, the family filed a formal report with the UK police on January 3. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death to determine if negligence or foul play was involved.
The family’s grief has been further exacerbated by what they describe as “exploitative” behavior following Nzube’s death. On January 5, they discovered that an unauthorized GoFundMe account had been established in her name by Dr. Obi without their knowledge or consent.
“Our only demand is a transparent and thorough investigation,” a family representative stated. “Nzube deserves justice, and the truth about what happened behind closed doors must be brought to light.”
