SHEFFIELD — Two brothers have been convicted for their roles in the killing of a 16-year-old boy who was struck by a car while walking home in Darnall. Following a five-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court, a jury delivered a split verdict against Zulkernain and Amaan Ahmed on Friday.
The victim, Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Al-Yazidi, had recently arrived in England from Yemen in search of a “peaceful life.” He was caught in the crossfire of an ongoing feud he had no part in when an Audi S3, driven by 21-year-old Zulkernain Ahmed, careened into the opposite carriageway on June 4, 2025.
CCTV footage captured the moment the vehicle targeted a moped and two electric bikes before fatally striking Abdullah on Staniforth Road. The teenager died the same day despite emergency medical intervention.
The Escape Attempt The court heard how the brothers abandoned the vehicle on Robinson Avenue and fled on foot. In a cold-blooded attempt to evade justice, the pair returned home to Locke Drive to collect passports and thousands of pounds in cash. They were apprehended by police in the early hours of the following morning at the Port of Dover, attempting to flee the country.
The Verdicts Zulkernain Ahmed, 21, was found guilty of murder. His older brother, Amaan Ahmed, 26, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter. A third man, Adam Mohammed, was acquitted of all charges.
In a moving statement, Abdullah’s family said: “Our son was just 16, an innocent boy full of hope for a safe life, taken from us by a feud that was nothing to do with him. We are devastated, but our faith gives us strength.”
Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Wood, the Senior Investigating Officer in this case, said: “This was a heartbreaking case which was entirely avoidable. Abdullah was a completely innocent boy who had his whole life ahead of him.
“The reckless, reprehensible behaviour of Zulkernain and Amaan Ahmed has left a family facing the devastating reality of never seeing their son again. Our thoughts remain with them.”
